A Wish, A Prayer

Fifteen candles and the war goes on. Everything feels so wrong.

Even though it's my birthday, I can't really celebrate.

At our table is an empty chair.  My big brother should be there.

Dad says he'll be coming home.  I close my eyes and blow.

And make a wish that becomes a prayer

for my brother out there somewhere.

Heart be strong.  Be safe from harm,

     I make a wish.  I say a prayer.

Wars have come and wars have gone. The fighting still goes on and on.

Seems after all these birthdays, war would finally go away.

But our world has empty chairs again.  Will the heartache ever end?

And as we long for peaceful years, we blow the candles through our tears.

And make a wish that becomes a prayer

for our loved ones out there somewhere.

Hearts be strong.  Be safe from harm,

Make a wish.  Say a prayer.

One small candle burning bright.  I see the future in a precious child.

All too soon you'll be fifteen.  What kind of world will it be?

Make a wish.   Say a prayer.

     For every child, everywhere,

Heart be strong.  Be safe from harm.

Make a wish.   Say a prayer.
