Jane’s Story

My musical journey began when my parents brought home an old upright piano they bought me for $99 when I was six-years-old. (I still have it.) Through my earlier years, I played and sang for the church and participated in youth choirs and glee clubs.

Eventually my interest in music led to songwriting, which became my focus. I have been very fortunate to find so many knowledgeable songwriters and professionals willing to share their advice and insights. Special thanks to Jai Josefs, Rex Benson, Frankie Fuchs, Robin Frederick, and Brooke Ferri.

After pursuing the country and pop markets as an outside writer, I began performing as a singer/songwriter at Traditions in Olympia, Washington and other venues.  The Olympia Song Circle really helped boost my confidence as a performer.  Thank you to Jim Cockrell, who ran the Olympia Song Circle for many years.  Also thank you to Barbara Packard and Dan Tennant, who continued leading Oly Song Circle until the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Most recently, I was very fortunate to join West Coast Songwriters, and enjoyed performing and meeting people at six chapters before Covid-19 hit.  I am very grateful for the warm welcome I have received from WCS.  I am also impressed with so many talented songwriters and thankful to all who work to make the events happen.  Really appreciate West Coast Songwriters virtual opportunities during the pandemic.

My story would not be complete without thanks to my family and friends.  Special thanks to my Husband, Elm, who is my roadie and driving force of our family - you make everything work!  John and Joe, you are the inspiration for all those “mom songs.”  And thanks to my daughters-in-law Claire and Heather, whose love and care have completed our family.  You all inspire me.  Thanks for making my life fuller, lovelier, and a lot more interesting!  Thanks again to my parents, George and Edith Johnson, for not only the piano, but also the piano lessons and support.

And for anyone whoever said an encouraging word about my music, Thank You!  Your kind words mean a lot to me!  Wishing you all joy, love, peace - everything that is good!
